I had the pleasure of attending a New York concert of the two masters of Bulgarian wedding music - Papazov and Yunakov. Here are the pics:

| Nice shots. I saw them last week in Philadelphia and tomorrow they will pay the gypsy fest at the Roxy as special guests. Are you going? |

| Nope, I live in New York. Who's Roxy? Is she a singer? I hope they use a better vocalist than Carol Silverman (3rd pic on the right) who had no business on stage with the like of Papazov and Yunakov. The drummer Salif Ali was also very good. |

No, mean they played the Gypsy fest ( www.nygypsyfest.com ) on Sunday at the Roxy in NY ( 10th and 18th St). I've some pics from the show but they are not great because the lights on the stage were very bad for pictures. I'll post them once they are edited.
I agree about Silverman. It was uncomfortable watching her with them. |

Here are some shitty pics from gypsyfest. Mostly of Gogol but the last picture had Ivo and Yuri (with his shirt off) . The lights were horrible. Sorry.

Wow, looks like the atmosphere was crazy. Almost like a rock concert or something.
By the way, how did you get into gypsy music? Are you a musician? |

It is most definately a rock show. :) Most of the pics are just of Gogol Bordello, with Yuri and Ivo in the last picture.

I was in a few bands but indie bands- boring stuff. I realized I hated performing this music. It started with Indian music, the rhythms and ornamentation. I got into Balkan and Romani music a few years ago. I heard Gogol Bordello while looking for Hungarian stuff and needed more of the fever pitch which I found with cocek. I'm in love. |

Does anyone know when Ivo and Yuri are playing again? Can anyone give me a specific date time and location, or a website that has this?
Thank you |
